Sandia Pet Sitters is a locally owned, “Mom and Pop” business. Our many years of busy professional and personal life have always been sweetened by coming home each day to our beloved pets.

Sometimes, though, sweet and cherished as they are, we’ve had to leave our “animal family” to get out of town for vacation, family or business matters. Just like you, we’ve spent a great deal of time finding solutions for the animals while we are away. We’ve asked neighbors, friends and family members to take care of our home and pets;  we’ve used an off-site kennel; we’ve employed professional pet sitters.

By far the best situation – for our peace of mind and for our pets quality of life – has been hiring a responsible, knowledgeable person with experience in caring for animals and houses to either visit our home and pets or stay overnight while we are away. We have so appreciated those times when we felt that our animals were receiving top notch care while we were far away! It has been so wonderful to come home to a house that is clean and orderly, with happy pets! But those few times that we’ve felt insecure about our pet and house-sitting situation, or have come home to a mess — have been deeply disappointing and stressful.

At Sandia Pet Sitters we are dedicated to providing that top-notch care that we have cherished so much ourselves. We know how much you value your home and animals because we value ours so tremendously! We give the best service around because that is what we have always hoped for.  We know how much more we enjoy our time away from home when we are secure in the knowledge that our property and our animals are well taken care of; and we want you to feel that same peace of mind while you’re away.

Dennis Shartz:

Dennis carried his mid-western sense of responsibility and work ethic from his hometown of Aurora, Ohio to the Southwest in 1993. His  bachelor’s degree in Business and Marketing was earned at Kent State, and he’s spent many years pursuing a dynamic business, marketing and sales career, working for others as well as for himself in Colorado and New Mexico.  No stranger to the life of a solopreneur, he decided in 2012 to put his particular brand of persistence to work in his own local business.  After a lifetime of caring for all kinds of pets, and years of travel that involved hiring pet- and house-sitters himself, Dennis thought he could do things just a little bit differently. (And when he says “differently”, he definitely means “better”.)

Dennis has finished 22 marathons, climbed almost all of Colorado’s “fourteeners” (mountains at or over 14,000 feet high), remained married to Karen since September of 2000 and raised daughter Amelia since 2003. Asked which of these accomplishments has been the most challenging, he diplomatically declines to answer, choosing instead to flash that million-dollar smile…
